Thirty years ago, most UU Religious Education programs focused on age-divided Sunday morning classes – the “Sunday School” model. Many congregations are finding that the old models don’t work well for these times. The focus is shifting to models that are “de-centering curriculum,” “post-curricular,” and “emergent faith formation”. Practically speaking, how do we move beyond Sunday School? Whole Church RE is a broad vision that offers support for sharing the uniquely powerful practices of RE in new ways, places, and times – connecting the whole community with opportunities for creative faith development. Our annual RE Sunday service will engage our collective imagination to explore the possibilities of a Whole Church RE approach.
