At First Parish In Beverly, we seek to create a welcoming environment for people of all ages that invites participation in the community at large while giving each individual the autonomy and freedom to create a space that can be uniquely their own.

  • Our congregation is moving away from spiritual practices that require still, quiet bodies.  Children are invited to sit up front or in a chosen spot with their families. Anyone can move about the sanctuary as needed. We encourage you to get comfortable, to engage as it suits you, and to show up as authentically as you are able.
  • Our sanctuary has dedicated, family-friendly space up front for wiggly bodies to move, non-traditional seating options (cushions, floor space), and activities (on shelves, and a small table) to keep hands busy and minds clear.  We recognize these activities as Soulwork (a repetitive, meditative or self-reflective practice) and we offer materials for coloring, fidgeting, and creating as well as books to read. We encourage anyone who would benefit to use these materials (available at the back of the sanctuary as you enter, as well as at the front center section) at their chosen seat or in the family-friendly area.
  • We start every service together in the sanctuary as a multi-generational community and light our chalice together. Our service includes a “time for all ages” practice before our children head to the classrooms downstairs to attend Sunday Seekers (our “Sunday School” program).  These weekly practices facilitate inter-generational relationship building through a playful, creative and accessible lens.
  • One service a month is entirely dedicated to multi-generational programming.  These services are designed to be inclusive for all ages, and often have opportunities for active participation from youth, so we do not have separate class offerings during that time.
