“A Safer Room”

“It is the obligation of every person born in a safer room

to open the door when someone in danger knocks”.

—Dina Nayeri

What does it mean to welcome those fleeing violence, war, persecution, and poverty? Are some of these hopeful arrivals more “welcome” than others?  Daily we are confronted with crises in the news, stories of desperate people looking for that safer room. How can we continue to act with compassion and generosity when we can come to feel helpless in the face of so much need?  And what do new arrivals really want and need from us?  Please join me in considering how we can put our UU principles into action in “Welcoming the Stranger”.

SUMMER SERVICES
Our summer worship services are held every Sunday at 10:30 am outdoors at Dane Street beach on Lothrop Street in Beverly, in the shade of two trees in the middle section of the grassy area of the park.  In case of rain, we will meet at our usual location at 225 Cabot Street.

Our outdoor services continue through August and early September.
