It’s easy to put our Unitarian and Universalist forebears on pedestals, but how noble were they really? How do we simultaneously celebrate their wisdom, good works, and faults… and our own? And how do we hold the legends in tension with the realities of their – and our – stories?

Rev. Kimberley Debus is a community minister affiliated with the Unitarian Church of Lincoln, NE. Ordained in 2017, Kimberley has previously served One Island Family UU Congregation in Key West, Florida, and the First Universalist Church of Southold, New York. She also serves as co-chair of the board of directors for the UU Wellspring Spiritual Deepening Program.
